School of Physical Therapy

invites applications for an

Accounting Associate Manager

to join their team. This position's primary responsibility is to work closely with the Chair of the School of Physical Therapy in developing and managing all of the School's financial matters, including but not limited to instructional general funds, designated accounts, extramural grant awards, and UMPT's clinical services budgets. The School includes eight full-time tenured/tenure track and five clinical faculty, several staff, as well as more than 100 professional students and has a financial portfolio of over $2.5M annually. This position is responsible for the hiring and management of student employees and serves as the lead for all administrative staff in the School. The Accounting Associate Manager directly supervises the School's Administrative Associate III and UMPT Clinic's Medical Billing Technician and is responsible for the performance management of those positions in conjunction with the Chair.

Specific responsibilities include:

Develop and manage annual fiscal operating plans for instructional (general/state appropriated), designated, clinical, philanthropic, and grant funds

Monitor and project balances, make recommendations for process changes and efficiencies, develop innovative ideas, and make assessments regarding the unit's financial condition and long-term planning in consultation with the Chair throughout the year

Oversee and process accounts receivable (A/R) accounts payable (A/P), and purchasing transactions (e.g., deposits, abatements, journal vouchers, travel documents, procurement cards, GrizMart carts, etc.)

Complete and ensure accuracy of various payroll and human resource transactions including hiring and separation paperwork, timecard entry, labor distribution changes, and compensation management

Assist with preparation of budgets for extramural grant submissions and provide fiscal management of awarded proposals following all state, federal or other agency regulations

Ensure compliance with all UM fiscal policy and procedure of faculty, staff, and students within the School

Effectively manage fiscal resources through regular reporting, anticipating surpluses and/or shortfalls

Advise the Chair of alternative funding sources to address deficits and provide innovative ideas for policy driven spending

Serve as the primary liaison for the School with Human Resource Services, Business Services, Facilities Services, the Office of Sponsored Program, Facilities Services, and the College of Health Dean's Office regarding all financial matters

Upon completion of training, incumbent will have developed:

Working knowledge of and demonstrated ability to interpret, communicate, and apply federal, state, MUS and university policy and procedure

Working knowledge of and experience in higher education issues, traditions and trends

Knowledge of UM specific software applications (e.g., U-Approve, BANNER, GrizMart, InfoGriz, etc.)

Required Skills

Knowledge of accounting principles and practices, including financial planning, forecasting, reconciliation, and budgeting

Knowledge and experience in managing large, complex, and diverse budgets

Knowledge of best practices commonly associated with human resource management

Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences

Ability to manage and prioritize multiple complex tasks independently and efficiently

Ability to adapt rapidly to changing priorities in a fast paced working environment

Display a high-degree of accuracy and attention to detail

Ability to receive and implement feedback to make process improvements

Maintain confidentiality, use sound judgement, credibility, maturity and integrity and act with tact and diplomacy

Computer proficiency and the ability to learn and effectively use UM specific applications

Commitment to diversity and the inclusion of different perspectives

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field and three (3) years related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge of UM policies and procedures related to accounting, grants management, and human resources

Experience in the use of various UM specific systems

Proficient in budget preparation and management, preferably in a government setting

Knowledge of the Office of Management and Budget 2 CFR 200, Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards

Familiarity with the unique work conducted in institutions of higher education

Ability to adapt to both fiscal and academic year schedules
