It is known that the protein-rich fluids tend to build up in a certain area of the body, such as the leg or arm, which can cause a health condition called lymphedema. This is where the lymphedema therapist comes in. He or she assists the patient with improving and reducing fluid build up.
Instructions
Step One: First off, you need to earn a professional degree in the field of lymphedema. You can receive certification is available to those that have studied to be a registered nurse, massage therapist, occupational therapist, doctor of osteopathy, among others. They are all required to graduate from their field of study. For registered nurses, they must obtain an associates' or bachelor's degree.
Step Two: Next step is to obtain a license or registration. In order to get a certificate as a lymphedema therapist, you are required to obtain a license or registration in your field of study. For instance, if you were studying to become a nurse, you would have to take and pass the NCLEX-RN exam for licensure as a registered nurse.
Step Three: You will have to complete 135 hours of coursework through LANA, or Lymphology Association of North America. Two-thirds of it is hands on training.
Step Four: Next you will have to get CDT experience, which is hands-on. This is done after completion of the coursework.
Step Five: The last thing you will need to do is pass the exam to get certification as a lymphedema therapist.
